Nature & Energy Insights
Our life lessons come in many shapes and forms. And so it is with my friend, Slurpy. Coming to me permanently thanks to an ‘ex-‘ many years ago, this friend wound his way into my heart for the last 14+ (!!) years. As he left his 14+-year-old body last night, I’ve been reflecting on our journey together and, just like those of Obi Wan Kenobi, his many lessons for me.
What is Slurpy, you might ask? He’s a little fish – with a BIG soul…..
Great consciousness in “little-bodied” souls
I intentionally did not call him a “little” soul because he had a BIG one in a little package. He reminded me regularly of this. I didn’t know anything about keeping fish when it was my turn to care for him. I knew I didn’t want to get *more* fish and I’d read that this type of fish can sometimes have issues with others. So to keep him company, I wondered if any of my crystals and their vibrations would be nice for him around his aquarium. What I discovered is that Slurpy had *distinct* opinions about WHICH crystals to place around him. And he reminded me that yes, indeed, each crystal has a distinctively different vibration. And that vibration may suit him differently at different times. And so it went – me laying out the crystals one by one and him RACING across the aquarium to sit beside the ones he liked, studying them carefully and generally being inquisitive and enjoying their company. The ones he didn’t like? He swam straight away from them, and refused to return to me until I removed them. Ok – no clearer message than that.
And so it went – me rotating crystals in and out every few months, giving him “new friends” and some new energy around his tank. Sometimes I’d try ones he’d refused previously and he’d be more receptive. Other times, same reaction. As I’d come and go through the day, I’d see him laying next to different ones. I’m guessing he was enjoying the vibration of them and getting something from each that I’ll likely never fully understand.
Communications from “little-bodied” souls
Over the years, I learned to just set the intention for Slurpy to understand that I was going to clean his tank – that way, I didn’t feel like I would startle him, and he would go lay under one of his rocks. And over the years, he got so used to this that I’d get a different message that, “No, I’m good to lay right here” and so he would - me pouring the water carefully into the tank and him just lying there like it was a water massage. One day, I bought a new brush and was intending to scrub some algae from the glass. Clearly this could scare him, so I showed him the brush, let him know what I was going to do, and with it, I got back a very CLEAR, DISTINCT picture in my mind’s eye: that of Slurpy ATTACKING this brush!! I thought, “my silly brain – I’ll come back to this later” and off I went. The next day – same message to him, same mental image back. Finally, I just decided I would get on with it and just presume my mind was playing tricks on me. So in I went with the brush – and out came Slurpy from under his rock – you guessed it - ATTACKING the brush....... YIKES!!!
That week, still thoroughly amazed and confused by what had happened, I spoke with a friend and intuitive, who I deeply trusted, about the experience. She said, “I get a message that he doesn’t want it in there because it’s unclean. Does that mean anything to you?” I thought about it for a minute and then gasped! “Oh my gosh – I just bought the brush and didn’t wash it off before using it!” Yep – that’s my fish. Teaching me 2 lessons in 1 – First, NO unclean tool in HIS home! And second, TRUST YOUR CLAIRVOYANCE (mental pictures). I felt so ashamed – and also appreciated the reminder of what I already knew: to trust my mind’s eye. He also reiterated a 3rd message: that Slurpy (in his little package of a body) was *just* as capable of giving me these distinct messages as any being!
See you again soon, Obi Wan "Slurpy" - the force is with all of us -
And so that’s what I’m doing as I say goodbye to my little friend of 14 years – I honor him for being my friend, and my teacher. And I know that he’ll still be that little teacher for me – just in a new form ….
See you again soon, Obi Wan “Slurpy” – the force is with all of us ….
Idea #3: Fancy a hike? There are typically ample parks that one can find that don’t always have a lot of people. Ground covered in snow? How about bundling up and snowshoeing out amidst nature? See what you can find …
Too cold where you live for outdoor activities? No problem! Here are a few for indoors:
have for the other. And the important thing is that you’re doing whatever you choose to do, together. So make the most of this special time -
